Tour Overview
Day 1: From Athens to Ancient Olympia via Corinth, Mycenae, Nafplio & Epidaurus
We start our journey early in the morning, heading west and enjoying the scenic drive along the stunning Greek coastline.
Our first short stop is at the iconic Corinth Canal, a masterpiece of engineering that separates the Peloponnese from mainland Greece. The narrow Isthmus of Corinth connects the Saronic Gulf with the Corinthian Gulf, offering a breathtaking photo opportunity. After a 30-minute break, we continue our journey.
Driving through charming countryside roads surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and citrus orchards, we arrive at Ancient Corinth. A city of immense wealth and power in antiquity, Corinth dazzles with its impressive ruins, such as the vast Roman Agora and the Temple of Apollo, dating back to the 6th century BC.
Corinth is also a significant religious destination, as it was here that Apostle Paul preached Christianity, was tried at the Roman tribunal and founded one of the most organized early Christian churches.
Before departing, we’ll visit the Archaeological Museum of Corinth, where exquisite Corinthian pottery and mosaic artworks bring ancient daily life into vivid detail.
Our next destination takes us even further back in time, to the mythical era just before the Trojan War, with a visit to Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known as the Kingdom of Atreus and Agamemnon, Mycenae was the richest and most powerful palatial center of the late Bronze Age.
Here, you’ll explore:
- The majestic Lion’s Gate at the Acropolis entrance
- The Treasury of Atreus, also known as the Tomb of Agamemnon
- The Royal Tombs, private vaulted graves and ancient basilicas
- The Mycenae Archaeological Museum, full of significant findings from the region
Our journey continues to the elegant seaside town of Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece after the Greek Revolution of 1821.
You’ll have free time to explore the charming old town, admire neoclassical mansions and cobblestone alleys, visit the Palamidi Fortress and enjoy a traditional Greek lunch by the sea with views of Bourtzi islet, the Venetian water fortress at the heart of the port.
In the afternoon, we visit the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Epidaurus was the epicenter of ancient Greek medicine and the birthplace of Asclepius, the god of healing. Treatments such as psychotherapy, hydrotherapy even brain surgery were practiced here.
The Theater of Epidaurus, renowned for its perfect acoustics and elegant symmetry, remains one of the most well-preserved ancient theaters and is still used today for performances.
As the day draws to a close, we will drive approximately 3 hours to Ancient Olympia, where we will escort you to your hotel for a relaxing overnight stay.
Day 2: Exploring the Timeless Spirit of Ancient Olympia
After breakfast, immerse yourself in the beauty of the Elis region, were nature and history merge in harmony. Welcome to Ancient Olympia, the sacred land dedicated to Zeus, the father of gods and men.
This globally revered sanctuary hosted the first Olympic Games in 776 BC, an event that has transcended time and borders. Every four years, the Olympic Flame is still lit right here, keeping the ancient spirit alive.
During your visit, you’ll walk among the ruins of:
- The majestic Temple of Zeus
- The Temple of Hera, one of the oldest in Greece
- The ancient Olympic Stadium, once accommodating over 45,000 spectators
- The Gymnasium, Palaestra and other ancient athletic training facilities
Continue your journey at the Archaeological Museum of Olympia, home to extraordinary artifacts including statues, tools and ceremonial objects from antiquity.
After the tour, we recommend enjoying lunch in the quaint town of Olympia before we begin our drive back to Athens.
