Tour Overview
Embark on a journey through time, discovering the most iconic historical and cultural landmarks of Greece. This meticulously designed tour offers a unique combination of ancient wonders, neoclassical elegance and breathtaking panoramic views, providing an experience into Greece’s rich heritage.
Corinth Canal
Your adventure begins with a visit to the Corinth Canal, an extraordinary feat of engineering that connects the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea. This impressive waterway, originally envisioned by Alexander the Great and later by Julius Caesar, was ultimately completed in 1893, revolutionizing maritime travel by eliminating the need for a 200-nautical-mile detour through dangerous waters.
The narrow yet striking canal offers a breathtaking view, making it an ideal spot for capturing stunning photographs.
Ancient Corinth
Next, we journey to Ancient Corinth, a city that played a crucial role in Greek history and culture. Walking through its archaeological site, you will encounter the majestic Temple of Apollo, one of the oldest Doric temples in Greece, standing as a testament to the city’s grandeur.
In antiquity, Corinth was one of the wealthiest and most powerful cities in Greece, boasting a population of 90,000 in 400 BC and controlling key trade routes between the East and West. Following its destruction by the Romans in 146 BC, the city was revived in 44 BC by Julius Caesar, who established a Roman colony and made it the provincial capital of Greece.
Dedicated to the worship of Aphrodite (Venus), Corinth was famous for its legendary Vestal Virgins, attracting visitors from across the ancient world. At its peak, historical estimates suggest the population ranged from 100,000 to 700,000. During the early Christian era, Corinth’s immense wealth and reputation for decadence drew St. Paul, inspiring him to preach in the city and write the Epistles to the Corinthians, which remain significant in Christian teachings to this day.
Athens City Highlights
On your return journey, the experience unfolds with even more captivating sights and unforgettable moments.
Next stop: the Acropolis Hill crowned by the Parthenon, one of the world’s most renowned UNESCO World Heritage sites. Walk through history as you visit the Parthenon (built in the Golden Age of Athens in the 5th century BC and still one of the most impressive buildings of the ancient world), the Erechtheion, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Propylaea and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
From the summit, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Athens, including the Ancient Agora, the Tower of the Winds, Monastiraki and Plaka an enchanting blend of old and new Athens, where tradition and modernity coexist in harmony. This vibrant commercial district exudes a nostalgic charm, reflecting the city’s rich cultural heritage.
Acropolis Museum
Next will we visit the Acropolis Museum, one of the world’s finest museums, housing some of Greece’s most significant archaeological treasures.
Temple of Olympian Zeus & Panathenaic Stadium
Continue to the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the largest temple of ancient Greece, which took over 700 years to complete. Just a short distance away, marvel at the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro), the only stadium in the world made entirely of white marble, famous for hosting the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.
Syntagma Square & Neoclassical Landmarks
Moving towards the heart of the city, stop at Syntagma Square, home to the Hellenic Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Witness the impressive Changing of the Guard, a unique cultural spectacle.
Along Panepistimiou Street, admire the stunning neoclassical architecture of The Academy of Athens, the University of Athens and the National Library.
Lycabettus Hill
Your next stop is Lycabettus Hill, the highest point in Athens, offering unparalleled panoramic views perfect for capturing spectacular photos.
Plaka, Monastiraki & Ancient Agora
The tour continues through the vibrant districts of Plaka and Monastiraki, where you’ll visit the Ancient Agora, the Roman Agora and the Tower of the Winds historic sites where democracy, philosophy and free thought were born.
